A special celebration was held for Jafrrey Drinkwater on January 16, 2024 at the Emu Bay Lavender Farm, where 10 of her friends gathered.
There was fun, laughter, excellent food and friendly service in a perfect setting.
It was 45 years ago that Jaffrey moved to Kangaroo Island with her family and a fleet of vehicles.
“We left Port Adelaide on the MV Troubridge, arriving about 7.5 hours later at the Kingscote wharf,” she said.
“After unloading we travelled to American River to take up residence on a farm near what is locally known as DJ's corner.”
Among those present were Kay Florance.
Jaffrey said Kay and her late husband Ralph were amongst the first people she met on KI and they made the family most welcome as did other neighbors, including Dean Johnson and family.
Jaffrey has gone on to have much involvement in the community, including serving and volunteering with the Royal Flying Doctor Service support group, KI Probus and the KI Motor Club.
